Modi Inaugurates India’s First 9,000 HP Locomotive
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first 9,000-horsepower electric locomotive at the newly completed Dahod manufacturing workshop in Gujarat, marking a significant achievement for Indian Railways. The facility was completed in just three years with an investment exceeding Rs 21,000 crore and has an annual production capacity of 120 locomotives, scalable to 150, with a target of 1,200 engines over the next decade. These advanced locomotives can haul 4,500–5,000 tonnes at up to 100 km/h, feature regenerative braking, and are designed for energy efficiency to support eco-friendly operations. The Dahod workshop is expected to generate around 10,000 jobs and boost the regional economy. During his visit, Modi also inaugurated multiple development projects across Gujarat with a total value exceeding Rs 24,000 crore. The event highlights India's focus on indigenous manufacturing, technological advancement, and sustainable infrastructure growth.
