TotalEnergies, Partners Secure Multiple Offshore Exploration Licenses Africa

TotalEnergies has secured three offshore exploration permits in Africa, including the Nzombo block off the Republic of Congo and two blocks offshore Nigeria, following recent licensing rounds. In the Republic of Congo, TotalEnergies operates the Nzombo permit with a 50% stake alongside QatarEnergy (35%) and the national oil company SNPC (15%), with plans to drill one exploration well by year-end. The 1,000-square-kilometer Nzombo block is located approximately 100 kilometers from Pointe-Noire, near existing production facilities, allowing potential development synergies. In Nigeria, TotalEnergies holds an 80% interest in two licenses (PPL 2000 and 2001) awarded under a Production Sharing Contract with NNPC and Sapetro, covering around 2,000 square kilometers in the West Delta Basin; the contract uniquely covers both crude oil and natural gas exploration and production. Nigerian officials highlight the deal's significance as a milestone under the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, emphasizing transparency, investor confidence, and the advancement of energy security and economic growth. Both partnerships underscore TotalEnergies' strategic focus on expanding high-impact exploration portfolios in collaboration with national governments and partners.
