US Imposes Sanctions On Four ICC Officials Over US, Israeli Investigations
President Trump’s administration has imposed sanctions on four International Criminal Court (ICC) officials, including judges Kimberly Prost and Nicolas Yann Guillou, and deputy prosecutors Nazhat Shameem Khan and Mame Mandiaye Niang, for their roles in pursuing investigations against U.S. personnel in Afghanistan and Israeli leaders without consent. The sanctions block their assets in the U.S. and prohibit transactions with U.S. persons, reflecting Washington’s stance against what it deems the ICC’s politicization and illegitimate judicial overreach. The ICC had issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, prompting strong opposition from the Trump administration and Israel. Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the ICC as a national security threat and an instrument for lawfare against the U.S. and its ally Israel. The administration emphasized its commitment to protecting American troops, sovereignty, and allies from the ICC’s actions, urging other countries to reject the court’s claims. The ICC, founded in 2002 to address serious international crimes, reaffirmed its independence and intention to continue investigations despite these sanctions.
