Second Fatal Skydiving Accident in Illinois This Week

A 40-year-old man died and another person was injured after a mid-air collision during a skydiving jump in Rochelle, Illinois, on Wednesday evening. Following the collision, both skydivers’ canopies collapsed and they deployed reserve parachutes, but one suffered an uncontrolled descent and was pronounced dead at Rochelle Community Hospital. The other skydiver sustained minor injuries and was also hospitalized. This marks the second fatal skydiving accident in Illinois within days. The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office and federal authorities are investigating the incident, and the victims’ identities have not yet been released pending family notification. The cause of the collision remains undetermined.
