UNHCR Sudan Fact Sheet

As the conflict in Sudan continues into its second year, the humanitarian crisis has escalated, leading to the largest displacement crisis of our time. Humanitarian access is impeded by insecurity and bureaucracy, with food insecurity and rising malnutrition particularly affecting children. In Egypt, UNHCR reports a surge in Sudanese refugees, with over 760,000 registering for assistance, driven by worsening conditions in Sudan and economic struggles in Egypt prompting many to return home. Conversely, those returning to Sudan from Egypt cite unbearable living costs as the primary reason for their reverse migration rather than military operations. Meanwhile, Sudanese refugees in Chad report significant human rights violations and a lack of documentation, with many families struggling to keep their children in school due to the crisis. Continued support and urgent assistance are critical as the situation evolves across these regions.
