Abdi Nageeye from the Netherlands and Sheila Chepkirui from Kenya won the men's and women's races respectively at the 2024 New York City Marathon, marking their first victories in a World Marathon Major. Nageeye finished with a time of 2:07:39, narrowly defeating 2022 champion Evans Chebet by six seconds, while Chepkirui crossed the finish line in 2:24:35, leading a Kenyan sweep of the women's podium. This marks the first time since 1976 that all three women on the podium were from the same country; Hellen Obiri placed second and Vivian Cheruiyot third. In addition to the elite races, Daniel Romanchuk and Susannah Scaroni triumphed in the wheelchair divisions, both securing their titles. Notably, around 50,000 participants took part in this year's marathon, which included various celebrities. The event showcased a strong performance from American runners, with Conner Mantz and Sara Vaughn finishing as the top U.S. competitors in their respective categories.
