1000-year-old dagger found
Underwater archaeologists from Akdeniz University have discovered a 3,600-year-old bronze dagger with silver rivets off the coast of Kumluca, Turkey, believed to be associated with the ancient Minoan civilization. The dagger was found during excavations that have been ongoing since 2019, which also uncovered a shipwreck containing copper ingots from Cyprus. The Minoans, known for their advanced culture and extensive trade networks in the Mediterranean, thrived from around 2700 to 1420 BC. Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy highlighted the importance of this discovery, calling it one of the most significant in underwater archaeology. The find not only sheds light on historical trade routes but also emphasizes the cultural exchanges that occurred in the region. This significant archaeological project is expected to provide further insights into the Minoan civilization and its maritime activities.
