TrueLayer Plans to Acquire Zimpler Expanding Pay-By-Bank Network Across Europe
TrueLayer, a leading European Pay by Bank network, has agreed to acquire Zimpler, a fast-growing Swedish Pay by Bank operator in the Nordic region, to expand its footprint across Europe and strengthen its position in the growing pay-by-bank sector. The acquisition will combine TrueLayer’s pan-European network and technology with Zimpler’s strong presence and expertise in the Nordics, including integration with the Swish payment rail, enabling access to over 20 million users and extending coverage to key markets like Sweden and Finland. This move aims to accelerate the shift from traditional card payments to faster, more secure account-to-account payments, leveraging the Nordic region’s high adoption rates as a proving ground. TrueLayer CEO Francesco Simoneschi emphasized the strategic importance of combining talent and technology to drive Pay by Bank adoption continent-wide, while Zimpler’s CEO highlighted the opportunity to build the leading Pay by Bank provider in Europe. The deal, backed by investors including Stripe, is subject to regulatory approval and follows TrueLayer’s ongoing efforts to expand in the Nordics, including a recent partnership with Nordic challenger bank Lunar. TrueLayer’s acquisition of Zimpler is seen as a key step in disrupting legacy payments and fostering greater competition and innovation in European payments.
