Transport for Wales (TfW) is offering a limited-time promotion allowing rail passengers in South East Wales to travel for just £1 per single journey using Pay As You Go (PAYG) contactless payment. The offer runs from August 19 to August 28 and applies at 95 PAYG-enabled stations, including all Valleys lines and routes to Bridgend, Maesteg, the Vale of Glamorgan, Abergavenny, and Chepstow. Passengers simply tap in and tap out with the same contactless card or device to automatically receive the discounted fare, with no pre-booking required and no restrictions on time of day or quotas. This £1 fare represents a discount of up to £3.20 off regular single fares and complements TfW's ongoing investment in new trains and infrastructure, aiming to encourage more people to try rail travel. While daily and weekly fare caps remain unchanged, TfW encourages users to register on its app for journey tracking and to avoid card clash from multiple contactless cards.
