Cape May Zoo Mourns Passing of Beloved 20-Year-Old Black Bear Cody

Cody, a 20-year-old American black bear and longtime resident of the Cape May County Park & Zoo, was euthanized after a decline in health due to his advanced age. Zoo officials and staff remembered Cody fondly, citing his laid-back personality, enthusiasm during training, and affection for peanut butter snacks, swimming, and napping in the shade. Cody was especially beloved by his keepers, who recalled his cooperative nature and memorable 'high-fives.' Having lived at the zoo since 2005, Cody was considered a staff favorite and brought joy to those who cared for him. His passing marks the loss of a cherished member of the zoo community.
