Joseph Butler Charged in Paula Canty Murder

A murder investigation is underway in Mallow, County Cork, following the death of 31-year-old Paula Canty, who was found with a fatal stab wound in her flat on Bridewell Lane. Joseph Butler, a 42-year-old man from Midleton, has been charged with her murder and appeared before Midleton District Court. The investigation began after a post-mortem by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster confirmed the death was due to foul play. Butler was identified through CCTV footage and arrested while collecting social welfare payments. The Gardaí have appealed for public assistance, seeking witnesses or footage from the area around the time of the incident. Paula Canty, originally from Kinsale, is survived by her mother and two daughters.
