UniCredit Bank Joins Bucharest Stock Exchange After Alpha Bank Merger

UniCredit Bank Romania officially became a Participant in the Bucharest Stock Exchange’s trading system following its merger with Alpha Bank Romania, completed on August 15, 2025. The merger allowed UniCredit Bank to take over all financial investment services related to capital market trading previously provided by Alpha Bank, expanding access for their clients to local company and bond listings, as well as continuing distribution of Fidelis government bonds. UniCredit Bank CEO Mihaela Lupu emphasized the importance of offering these services to their large client base and expressed commitment to supporting the development of the Romanian capital market. Bucharest Stock Exchange CEO Remus Vulpescu welcomed UniCredit Bank, highlighting the bank's strong presence and expected contribution to a dynamic trading environment. The merger, advised by the law firm Clifford Chance Badea, created the third largest banking group by assets in Romania and involved a multidisciplinary legal team to ensure compliance and operational integration. Both UniCredit Bank and Alpha Bank teams were commended for their professionalism and collaboration throughout the process.
