Vietjet receives first Boeing 737 of $32bn 200-jet order

Vietnamese low-cost carrier Vietjet has received its first Boeing 737-8 aircraft as part of a historic $32 billion order for 200 Boeing 737 jets, marking a major milestone in its fleet modernization and global expansion plans. The delivery ceremony took place in Seattle and was attended by Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, highlighting the strengthening strategic partnership between Vietnam and the United States. Initially ordered in 2016 and doubled in 2018, the delivery was delayed due to the global grounding of Boeing 737 Max jets after fatal crashes, but Vietjet is now poised to deploy these aircraft on high-demand regional routes and transfer some to its Thai unit. This fleet expansion is expected to enhance operational efficiency and passenger experience, supporting Vietjet's ambition to grow its domestic and international network. Additionally, Vietjet has ordered Airbus A330neo aircraft to serve its long-haul routes, rounding out its strategy to modernize and diversify its fleet. The delivery underscores Vietjet's role in bolstering Vietnam's aviation sector and economic ties with the U.S.
