Wisconsin Economic Development CEO Missy Hughes Resigns After $8B Investment Oversight
Missy Hughes, the Secretary and CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), announced her resignation effective September 19, 2025, after serving since 2019 when appointed by Governor Tony Evers. During her tenure, Hughes helped secure over $8 billion in planned investments, creating or retaining more than 45,000 jobs, and played a key role in initiatives such as attracting major companies, supporting state businesses, and helping Wisconsin earn a federal Regional Technology Hub designation. Governor Evers praised Hughes for her leadership in building an inclusive economy and supporting local industries, while Hughes expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to Wisconsin's economic growth and innovation. Her departure aligns with rumors that she is considering a Democratic primary run for governor following Evers’ announcement that he will not seek reelection. WEDC under Hughes also made record investments in Wisconsin businesses in fiscal year 2025, including launching a $100 million Wisconsin Investment Fund and leading international trade missions. The governor plans to announce her replacement soon as the state continues efforts to compete in emerging industries and markets.
