Authorities allege the siblings showed immense negligence by failing to repair the building despite repeated warnings and evidence of structural issues, including water leaks from the air conditioning system. The collapse occurred during a packed performance by merengue singer Rubby Pérez, who was among the victims along with former Major League Baseball players and a provincial governor. An employee provided investigators with evidence indicating Espaillat was warned about the roof's poor condition but ignored the risks, contradicting his earlier claims of unawareness.
