JPJ Recalls 8,322 Kia, Yamaha, Mercedes Vehicles Over Fire, Sensor Defects

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) of Malaysia has initiated a recall of 8,322 vehicles from Kia, Yamaha, and Mercedes-Benz due to safety-related defects. The recall includes 5,123 units of the Kia Rio UB (2010-2017) at risk of a short circuit potentially causing fires in the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU). Yamaha is recalling 1,649 units of the MT09 and 1,369 units of the Tracer 9 GT (November 2021 to February 2025) for malfunctioning throttle position sensors, and 149 units of the Tenere 700 (2023-2024) for clutch issues affecting gear shifting. Mercedes-Benz has recalled 32 units from models S 580 e, GLC 300 4MATIC, EQS 500, AMG SL 43, EQE 53, and EQS 53 (2023-2025) due to improperly installed fuse boxes. Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by manufacturers to arrange inspections and free replacements of defective parts, with JPJ overseeing the process to ensure safety compliance. The recall aims to prevent accidents caused by these defects and encourages timely cooperation from vehicle owners.
