Bystander Rescues Driver from Submerged Car in Naperville Pond
A driver was rescued after their car veered off the road and became submerged in a pond near Royal Worlington Drive and Route 59 in Naperville on Wednesday morning. The driver, who was unable to swim, was trapped inside the vehicle in about six feet of water. A landscaper working nearby witnessed the accident and immediately entered the pond, holding the driver's head above water until emergency responders arrived. Firefighters from the Plainfield Fire Protection District and Naperville Fire Department then extricated the driver, who, along with the bystander, declined transport to the hospital after being evaluated by paramedics. Authorities commended the quick and courageous actions of the bystander, highlighting their vital role in the rescue. The incident was determined to be the result of a traffic accident.
