HBO Plans Series on Fort Bragg Cartel Drug Murders
HBO has secured the rights to develop a television series based on Seth Harp's bestselling nonfiction book, The Fort Bragg Cartel: Drug Trafficking and Murder in the Special Forces, which investigates drug trafficking, unsolved homicides, and corruption within U.S. Special Forces units at Fort Bragg. The book, debuting on the New York Times bestseller list, details an investigation into a 2020 double homicide of two soldiers and uncovers a web of narco-trafficking involving military veterans and cartel connections, alongside police and military cover-ups. Seth Harp, an investigative journalist, military veteran, and contributing editor at Rolling Stone, will executive produce the series alongside former HBO Films president Len Amato through his company Crash&Salvage. HBO is currently searching for a writer and showrunner to adapt the material, with Harp emphasizing his role to preserve the artistic integrity of the work. The series aims to be a definitive cultural representation of the post-9/11 wars and promises to explore the morally complex realities faced by elite military units. Harp's experience as a reporter in conflict zones and his military background lend authenticity to the project, which is expected to delve deeply into the darker aspects of the Special Forces community and their entanglements with organized crime.
