Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, a Boston native with a net worth of $5.3 billion, is reportedly among the frontrunners to purchase the Boston Celtics. The Celtics, recently crowned as the 2024 NBA champions, are expected to sell for over $6 billion, making it the most expensive sale in NBA history. Lurie, who holds degrees from Massachusetts institutions, is one of four to five potential buyers, as per Bill Simmons' podcast. The sale process is planned to occur in two phases, with 51% of the team being sold in early 2025 and the remaining 49% by 2028. Other potential buyers include John Henry of the Boston Red Sox, although rumors of his interest have been dismissed. Current majority owner Wyc Grousbeck aims to stay with the team until the sale's completion in 2028.
