On October 6, Stockport will honor the late Sarah Harding of Girls Aloud with a fundraising event that includes the unveiling of a commemorative plaque near a mural dedicated to her. The event, organized by John Barratt, will start at midday with a walking tour showcasing Stockport's musical heritage, culminating in a Girls Aloud-themed party at Thread Bar. Proceeds will benefit The Christie Charity and the Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal, which aims to promote early detection of breast cancer, a cause Harding was passionate about after her own diagnosis. Attendees will enjoy entertainment, including screenings of Girls Aloud performances, while Thread Bar will donate 20% of its earnings to the charity. Harding, who passed away at 39 in September 2021, wished for improved early detection methods for breast cancer, leading to the establishment of the BCAN-RAY study in her memory. This event not only celebrates her legacy but also supports vital cancer research and awareness efforts.
