Israel Launches Airstrikes, Violating Ceasefire in Southern Lebanon

The Israeli Air Force conducted targeted airstrikes on Hezbollah military sites in southern Lebanon on Thursday night, claiming these sites posed a direct threat to Israel's security. Despite a ceasefire agreement in place since November 27, Israeli military operations have reportedly continued, with nearly daily strikes across Lebanon, leading to numerous violations of the truce. Lebanese officials, including Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, have rejected Israel's intentions to maintain a presence in strategic locations beyond the February 18 deadline for troop withdrawal. Reports indicate that Lebanese sources confirmed strikes near the Litani River in towns such as Yohmor al-Shakif and Zibqin, with no immediate reports of casualties. The Israeli military stated that the operations aimed to eliminate concealed weapons caches and launchers belonging to Hezbollah. Since the ceasefire, Lebanon has lodged formal complaints with the UN regarding Israeli aggression, and the conflict has resulted in significant casualties and displacement among the Lebanese population since October 2023.
