Volkswagen Debuts 2026 Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo

Volkswagen has unveiled the 2026 Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo, its most powerful compact SUV yet, at the 2025 New York Auto Show. The range-topping model features a 2.0-liter EA888 turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, surpassing the Golf GTI in output. Performance upgrades include a larger turbocharger, lower compression ratio, reinforced internals, and variable valve lift while retaining regular gasoline use and Miller-cycle efficiency. Standard equipment includes all-wheel drive, an eight-speed automatic, 20-inch wheels, and a luxury interior with massaging, ventilated, and heated seats, plus advanced driver-assistance systems. The 2026 Tiguan is also about 170 pounds lighter than its predecessor. There is still no hybrid option for North America, but the Tiguan R-Line Turbo targets buyers seeking both practicality and high performance.
