The Hockey India League (HIL) is set to return after a seven-year hiatus, featuring eight men's and six women's teams, running simultaneously from December 28 to February 1 at two venues in India. Supported by the International Hockey Federation (FIH), this relaunch aims to develop talent and promote gender equality, marking the first inclusion of a women's league. Notable franchises like JSW Sports and SG Sports and Entertainment have joined, with a player auction scheduled for mid-October. The league has revised its financial model to ensure sustainability by reducing operational costs and maintaining a central revenue pool. Former players, including Savita Punia and Asunta Lakra, highlight the league's potential to elevate the sport and provide a platform for emerging talent. This initiative is part of Hockey India's broader strategy to support both men's and women's teams equally in terms of resources and prize money.
