Colombian Man Jailed 42 Years for Murdering Couple, Dumping Remains in Suitcases Near Clifton Bridge
Yostin Andres Mosquera, a 35-year-old Colombian national, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 42 years for the brutal murder of civil partners Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, in their London flat in July 2024. Mosquera attacked Longworth with a hammer, repeatedly stabbed Alfonso during a filmed session, then decapitated and dismembered both victims, placing their remains in suitcases which he abandoned near the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. After the murders, he attempted to steal from the victims' bank accounts and transfer money to Colombia. Mosquera also pleaded guilty to possessing over 1,500 indecent images of children, receiving an additional 16-month sentence. The court heard the killings were premeditated and calculated, with Mosquera initially claiming manslaughter by loss of control, but a jury found him guilty of both murders unanimously. Judge Joel Bennathan described the crimes as "thoroughly wicked," emphasizing their shocking and heinous nature.
