China Dominates Global Industrial Robot Deployments
Global industrial robot installations exceeded 542,000 units in 2024, with China installing nearly 300,000 units—about 54% of global deployments—and bringing its total robot stock to over two million, reportedly more than the rest of the world combined. Chinese manufacturers supplied a majority of domestic units in 2024, raising their market share to about 57% (up from roughly 47% in 2023). Asia accounted for the bulk of deployments, while the United States added roughly 34,000 robots in 2024. India installed about 9,100 robots (around 7% growth), ranking sixth globally, with the automotive sector representing roughly 45% of its demand. Analysts attribute China’s lead to sustained state support—including Made in China 2025, subsidies, low‑interest state loans and explicit deployment targets—that channeled capital to robotics and AI, and factories are increasingly pairing robots with AI to boost efficiency and reshape jobs. The International Federation of Robotics projects roughly 10% average annual growth potential in China through 2028, underscoring continued expansion in automated manufacturing worldwide.
