Rail Disruptions Expected Across England for Easter Weekend

Rail passengers across the UK are facing significant disruptions due to various engineering works and incidents during the busy Easter weekend and an upcoming FA Cup semi-final. In Hampshire, Network Rail is undertaking a £86 million investment program, which includes a nine-day closure for stability work on a railway cutting between Swanwick and Fareham starting April 12. Similarly, on April 27, East Midlands Railway will limit services to one train per hour between London St Pancras and Nottingham due to engineering works coinciding with the London Marathon and the FA Cup semi-final, leading to expected long queues and limited seating. Additionally, the Transpennine Route Upgrade will impact services over the Easter weekend between Huddersfield and Dewsbury, as construction continues at Mirfield Station. Passengers are advised to plan ahead and check schedules, as diversions and rail replacement buses will be in operation. Furthermore, a line-side fire has caused cancellations between Coventry and Birmingham International, with disruptions anticipated to last until at least 14:30 BST.
