She shared a pre-recorded video message with fans explaining her condition, apologizing for not being able to attend in person, and reassuring them she would recover soon. Despite her absence, Dollywood proceeded with the announcement of its biggest and most expensive new attraction, part of a $500 million expansion plan initiated in 2021. The park had only cited a "change in schedule" initially without disclosing the health reason for Parton’s absence. Parton's health scare comes amid a difficult year for her, following the recent death of her husband. She expressed that she was "there in spirit" and looked forward to returning to Dollywood soon.
