Theo James Advocates for Refugees at COP29

Actor Theo James, speaking at COP29 in Azerbaijan, emphasized the urgent need for global leaders to address the escalating injustices faced by refugees due to climate change. Drawing from his personal connection to refugees through his grandfather's history, he highlighted his recent visit to Mauritania, where he met refugees affected by conflict and climate-related challenges. James pointed out that 90 million out of 120 million displaced individuals live in regions vulnerable to severe climate impacts, as indicated by a recent UNHCR report. He stressed that refugees, who contribute minimally to carbon emissions, are disproportionately suffering from the climate crisis. As the summit focuses on climate finance, James called for the integration of refugee issues into climate policies to ensure their needs are addressed. He urged immediate action to support those displaced by climate change and conflict, stating, 'There’s nowhere left for them to go.'
