Travel Nurse Charged in Alaska Landlord Killing

LaShaunda Lewis, a 31-year-old traveling behavioral health nurse from Virginia, has been charged with first- and second-degree murder in the stabbing death of her landlord, 78-year-old John 'Skip' Dove Jr., a Vietnam veteran and retired Navy servicemember, in Soldotna, Alaska. Troopers discovered Dove dead and Lewis with self-inflicted stab wounds after responding to a 911 call from Dove’s phone. The incident followed a welfare check initiated by Lewis' family over concerns about her mental health, during which Lewis declined assistance. Charging documents indicate Lewis admitted to causing Dove's death but reported confusion and partial memory loss, and claimed in a video that Dove tried to kill her. Evidence recovered included bloodstained weapons, a walking stick, and a video of Lewis whispering for help.
