Scottish Footballer Niall Geany Jailed Three Years Nine Months for Rape in Edinburgh

Niall Geany, a 19-year-old Scottish footballer who most recently played for the lower league team Spartans, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for raping a woman who had kindly invited him into her home to charge his phone after a night out. Despite the woman repeatedly expressing no romantic interest and telling him "No" and "Stop," Geany forcibly struggled with and raped her in her bedroom, causing injury and lasting physical and mental harm. The court heard that the attack deeply affected the woman, leaving her visibly distressed and altering her demeanor. Judge Alistair Watson condemned the violation of trust and the gravity of the forcible and violent rape committed in a place where the victim should have felt safe.
