Idaho AG Presses Boise on Flag Law Compliance

Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador has urged Boise Mayor Lauren McLean to remove the Progress Pride flag and Organ Donor Awareness flag from Boise City Hall, citing House Bill 96, which restricts government buildings to flying only certain official flags. The law, enacted on April 3, 2025, currently lacks enforcement mechanisms or penalties. Boise officials, including Mayor McLean and the City Council, assert they will continue displaying the flags to uphold inclusivity and constitutional rights to expression. Labrador accused the mayor of defying the legislature and warned that future legislative sessions could introduce enforcement measures, such as withholding state tax revenues from noncompliant cities.
