Mother Charged After Daughter's Hot Car Death
Sandra Hernandez-Cazares, a mother from Anaheim, California, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and child abuse after her 3-year-old daughter, Ily Ruiz, was found dead in a hot car while Hernandez-Cazares was unconscious and heavily intoxicated. The incident occurred during a heatwave with temperatures reaching 104 degrees. Hernandez-Cazares had a blood alcohol level nearly four times the legal limit. Previously, she had advocated for stricter DUI laws after losing two sons in a drunk driving accident in 2012. Juan Ruiz, the child's father, expressed a mixture of anger and sorrow but believed the tragedy was unintentional. Hernandez-Cazares faces up to 12 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
