Orthodox Jewish Groups Endorse Cuomo For NYC Mayor After Adams Withdraws
Jewish political groups, predominantly representing Orthodox communities across New York City, have united to endorse former Governor Andrew Cuomo for mayor following incumbent Eric Adams' withdrawal from the race. Their joint statement expresses significant concern over front-runner Zohran Mamdani’s policies, including his past remarks about police, support for the slogan “globalize the intifada,” and socialist positions, which they believe threaten Jewish communities and city stability. Despite past tensions due to Cuomo's COVID-19 restrictions that were seen as targeting Orthodox communities, these groups now view Cuomo as the experienced leader capable of managing the city's complexities and safeguarding community interests. The endorsements come from a broad spectrum of organizations and leaders representing neighborhoods such as Crown Heights, Queens, Far Rockaway, Staten Island, the Bronx, Manhattan, and the Sephardic community in Brooklyn. Cuomo remains behind Mamdani in the polls but ahead of Republican Curtis Sliwa, and the Jewish groups are calling for unity to prevent what they characterize as ideological experimentation. They also thanked Adams for his support of the Jewish community during his tenure.
