Royals’ Witt Jr., Garcia Win 2025 Gold Gloves
Rawlings Gold Glove winners were announced Sunday, with Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and third baseman Maikel Garcia each taking home American League awards — Witt his second straight and the franchise’s first multi-time Gold Glove shortstop, and Garcia his first and the first Royals third baseman winner since George Brett in 1985. Witt anchored the infield with elite range, posting 24 Outs Above Average (tied for the major-league lead) and just 10 errors, while Garcia led AL third basemen in total chances, putouts and fielding percentage and posted 18 OAA. Their wins mark the first time the Royals’ left side of the infield won Gold Gloves together and only the third time a team’s left infield did so since 2003. In the National League, Fernando Tatis Jr. won his second NL Gold Glove in right field and is a Platinum Glove candidate, and the Chicago Cubs placed three players among winners — Pete Crow‑Armstrong (CF), Ian Happ (LF, his fourth straight) and Nico Hoerner (2B), with Hoerner reclaiming the second‑base award. On the minor‑league front, Brewers prospect Luis Lara won a Minor League Gold Glove for center field after a .994 fielding percentage, two errors and 10 outfield assists at Double‑A Biloxi.
