Ancient Egyptian Sunken Ports Rediscovered Off Alexandria Coast

Archaeologists have made significant underwater discoveries off the coast of Egypt, revealing parts of ancient submerged cities and ports dating back over 2,000 years. In Alexandria's ancient harbor, a remarkable find called the 'Jesus Cup' bears what is believed to be the earliest reference to Jesus Christ, indicating his reputation as a healer and miracle worker was already spreading in the first century. Nearby, the ancient city of Canopus has yielded buildings, a merchant ship, statues including a quartz sphinx of Pharaoh Ramesses II, and an ancient harbor, shedding light on its economic and cultural importance before Alexandria's foundation. Further discoveries near the Taposiris Magna Temple uncovered a long-submerged port connected by tunnels to the temple complex, with artifacts such as stone and metal anchors and amphorae from the Ptolemaic period.
