Freight Train Kills 10, Injures 61 in Atlacomulco Mexico
At least ten people were killed and 61 injured when a freight train collided with a double-decker passenger bus in an industrial area near Atlacomulco, about 115 kilometers northwest of Mexico City. The bus was reportedly attempting to cross the railway tracks slowly amid heavy traffic when the train struck it, shearing the bus in two and causing severe damage. The train operator indicated that the bus driver tried to pass in front of the moving train, and the railway company expressed condolences while urging drivers to respect crossing signals. The victims included seven women and three men, with some injured in critical condition. The accident highlights the ongoing issue of deadly bus crashes in Latin America, with Mexico reporting thousands of crashes and hundreds of deaths annually on federal highways. Authorities have opened an investigation into the incident, and emergency services responded promptly to the scene.
