Gjert Ingebrigtsen Convicted of Assaulting Daughter

Gjert Ingebrigtsen, father and former coach of Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen, was convicted of assaulting his daughter Ingrid with a wet towel during a 2022 argument and received a 15-day suspended sentence along with a 10,000 kroner fine. Ingrid, who left home at age 15, was awarded compensation as part of the court's verdict. The Norwegian court acquitted Gjert of charges of physically and psychologically abusing Jakob, citing insufficient evidence and reasonable doubt regarding claims of a decade-long pattern of abuse. The court emphasized that no continuous fear or submission was present in Jakob's relationship with his father. Prosecutors had originally sought a much harsher sentence based on testimonies of a controlling and violent environment. Both Jakob and Ingrid are now focusing on moving forward after the highly publicized trial.
