Ottawa Senators Complete LeBreton Flats Land Purchase for New Arena

The Ottawa Senators have finalized an agreement with the National Capital Commission (NCC) to purchase approximately 11 acres of land at LeBreton Flats, marking a significant advancement toward building a new downtown arena and events centre. This new location, near Parliament Hill and the Ottawa River, addresses longstanding concerns about the current Canadian Tire Centre's inconvenient suburban location and aging infrastructure. Senators president and CEO Cyril Leeder emphasized that while the agreement is a major step, numerous challenges remain, including zoning, design, land decontamination, and approvals before construction can begin. The project, expected to be led by Claridge Homes and Capital Sports Development Inc., will also include new housing, a hotel, restaurants, and a district designed to enhance the game-day experience. NCC CEO Tobi Nussbaum highlighted that the events centre will serve as a vibrant attraction, injecting new energy into the Nation’s Capital and catalyzing the broader development of LeBreton Flats. The Senators' move downtown aims to secure the franchise's long-term future and revitalize the area with a modern arena and surrounding amenities.
