Berkoff, Walsh, Huske Set Records at U.S. Nationals
At the 2025 USA Swimming Championships in Indianapolis, Katharine Berkoff became the first American woman to swim under 27 seconds in the 50m backstroke, setting new American, U.S., and championship records with a 26.97. Gretchen Walsh continued her stellar performance with the second-fastest 100m butterfly in history at 54.76 and an American record in the 50m fly at 24.66. Torri Huske won the 100m freestyle, earned a relay spot in the 200m free, and withdrew from the 50m fly to focus on other events. Katie Ledecky led the 800m and 200m freestyle heats, while Bobby Finke claimed the men’s 400m individual medley, though he is not expected to swim it at Worlds. The championships highlighted coaching changes for top athletes like Huske and the emergence of new U.S. talents. These performances signal a strong U.S. presence for the upcoming World Championships in Singapore.
