San Jose Man Charged in Downtown Home Assault

San Jose police arrested 40-year-old Cong Tran on suspicion of burglary and sexual assault after he allegedly entered a downtown home through an unlocked door and assaulted a sleeping woman. The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. on May 22, with Tran reportedly covering the victim's mouth to stifle her cries before fleeing. Officers recognized Tran from a previous encounter the night before and arrested him about 16 hours after the attack. Tran, who had no prior relationship with the victim, was booked into jail without bail and has been formally charged by prosecutors. Authorities are treating the case as a stranger attack.
