Ticketmaster Agrees UK Pricing Transparency Reforms After Oasis Ticket Sales Probe
Following widespread complaints about Ticketmaster's handling of the Oasis 2025 reunion tour ticket sales, the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has secured commitments from Ticketmaster to increase transparency in ticket pricing and sales practices. The CMA found that Ticketmaster did not use dynamic pricing but employed a tiered pricing system where identical tickets were sold at different prices, including "platinum" tickets priced nearly 2.5 times higher without offering additional benefits. Fans were not adequately informed that cheaper tickets would sell out first before prices jumped, leading to confusion and frustration during the sale process. Ticketmaster has agreed to notify fans at least 24 hours in advance if tiered pricing is used, provide clearer price range information while customers wait in queues, and eliminate misleading labels such as "platinum" when tickets do not confer extra benefits. The company will also report regularly to the CMA over the next two years to ensure compliance, with potential enforcement actions for failures. These measures aim to restore trust and ensure fans receive clear, accurate information when purchasing tickets for highly demanded events.
