Dead fish found after unknown foam pollutes Norfolk's River Thet
A thick layer of white foam appeared on the River Thet in Thetford, Norfolk, prompting an investigation by the Environment Agency and fire services. Specialist teams collected samples and identified the source of the pollution, which is an unknown substance, but decided to let the foam dilute naturally with rain to avoid further environmental damage. The incident resulted in the death of small fish and fry, which has been described as upsetting by the Environment Agency. Authorities have advised the public not to enter the water or allow animals to drink or swim where the foam is visible. A previous foam incident occurred in December 2024, but the source was not identified then, and Anglian Water confirmed no involvement of their equipment in the current case. The Environment Agency continues to monitor the situation and will assess longer-term impacts once the pollutant has dissipated.
