Everton Manager David Moyes Receives OBE for Football Services
Everton manager David Moyes was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by the Prince of Wales in a ceremony at Windsor Castle, honoring his extensive contributions to football. Moyes, 62, has managed several teams including Everton, Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland, and West Ham, where he led West Ham to their first major trophy in 43 years during the 2023 Europa Conference League. He returned to Everton earlier in 2025 and helped the team recover from relegation danger to finish 13th in the Premier League. Moyes learned of the honor while attending his grandson's nativity play, during a difficult family period, and described the award as a proud moment for his family, especially since his father had earlier been awarded an MBE. During the ceremony, Prince William, an avid football fan and Aston Villa supporter, congratulated Moyes on Everton's turnaround and shared his enjoyment of football with his family. Moyes reflected on the significance of the royal family's connection to everyday life through such shared experiences and expressed humility at being recognized alongside others for their contributions to society.
