Royal Mint Honors John Lennon with Commemorative Coin

The Royal Mint has launched a commemorative coin collection honoring John Lennon to mark what would have been his 85th birthday. This coin features a portrait of Lennon, based on a 1974 photograph by Bob Gruen, and includes the inscription 'Imagine,' referencing his iconic song. Part of the ongoing 'music legends' series, the coin follows previous tributes to music icons like Paul McCartney and David Bowie. The coins, available from March 17, 2025, on the Royal Mint's website, range in price from £18.50 to £6,420, depending on the metal and denomination. Despite being legal tender, their collectible nature makes them unlikely for everyday transactions. Lennon, a renowned musician and peace advocate, was tragically shot in 1980 by Mark David Chapman, who remains imprisoned for the crime.
