Bangladesh Seeks Extradition of Sheikh Hasina

Bangladesh's interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, announced plans to request the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India after her government was overthrown in an August revolution. Hasina is accused of committing crimes against humanity during her tenure, with charges stemming from violent crackdowns on protests that resulted in numerous casualties. Yunus, a Nobel Peace laureate, emphasized the government's commitment to justice for these events and efforts to prosecute those responsible. Bangladesh has sought Interpol's help to issue a red notice for Hasina's arrest, although such notices do not compel India to extradite her. Yunus also indicated that the interim government is working toward electoral reforms to eventually hand power to an elected government. Despite some reports of increased violence against minorities, Yunus claims these are exaggerated.
