ASEAN and BRICS Navigate Geopolitical Challenges

ASEAN, under Malaysia's chairmanship, is focusing on economic integration and inclusivity with the launch of 12 initiatives and 33 partnerships, aiming to unlock the region's potential. This comes amid geopolitical challenges, such as Myanmar's ongoing conflict and tensions in the South China Sea, with Malaysia advocating for a measured approach to these issues. Simultaneously, ASEAN's need to strengthen integration is emphasized by Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan to counter global protectionist trends. Meanwhile, the BRICS bloc, now chaired by Brazil, is seeking to enhance Global South cooperation and reform global governance amidst internal and external challenges. The bloc, which now includes 22 countries, is positioning itself as a key player alongside traditional powers like the G-7, reflecting shifts in global economic dynamics. Both ASEAN and BRICS are navigating complex geopolitical landscapes as they strive to strengthen regional and global influence.
