IndiGo Leases Boeing 787 for European Expansion
IndiGo, India's largest airline, is expanding its international long-haul network by entering into a damp lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways for a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking its first widebody aircraft. This aircraft is expected to begin operations in March 2025, targeting high-demand European routes such as Heathrow, Charles de Gaulle, and Amsterdam Schiphol. The initial lease term is six months, with the possibility of extending to 18 months, and both parties are exploring additional leasing opportunities. This move aligns with IndiGo's broader strategy to become a global airline by 2030, alongside its plans to introduce Airbus A350s from 2027. The Dreamliner will enhance IndiGo's fleet capabilities, offering increased connectivity and meeting the growing demand for international travel from India. This partnership illustrates IndiGo's strategic push towards expanding its geographic reach and diversifying its fleet, amid a booming market for long-haul travel.
