Police seek owners after XL Bully dog attack kills pet in Banbury

Thames Valley Police are investigating a tragic incident in Banbury, Oxfordshire, where a small white schnauzer and poodle mixed-breed dog named Winnie was killed by a suspected off-leash XL Bully. The attack occurred in a field between St Peters Church and Hanwell Fields, prompting police to seek the owners of the XL Bully, who fled the scene after recalling their dog. Witnesses describe the suspects as a white woman, approximately 5ft 5ins tall with blonde hair, and a white man dressed in black, both reportedly with two dogs that may be XL Bullies. Investigating officer PC Alex Ward has urged anyone with information or dash-cam footage from the area to come forward. The incident raises concerns, as there have been seven fatal attacks by XL Bullies in the past year, highlighting the potential danger these dogs pose. Winnie’s owner expressed deep sorrow, noting her dog was gentle and posed no threat, emphasizing the need for accountability regarding off-leash dogs.
