Tony Estanguet Nominated for IOC Membership
Tony Estanguet, a three-time Olympic gold medalist in canoeing and former President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, has been nominated for membership in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to be elected at the 144th IOC Session in Greece from March 18-21, 2025. His nomination, approved by the IOC's Executive Board, falls under the Independent Member category, allowing him to serve until the age limit of 70. Estanguet previously served an eight-year term as an IOC athlete member until 2021 and is recognized for his leadership in organizing the Paris 2024 Games, which were deemed highly successful. The IOC Session will also address other significant proposals, including the election of a new IOC president to succeed Thomas Bach. Estanguet aims to promote the Olympic values of excellence and inclusivity through this new role. His expected election is seen as a formality given his credentials and contributions to the Olympic Movement.
