Mats Hummels Signs with AS Roma

World Cup-winning defender Mats Hummels has signed with AS Roma on a free transfer after leaving Borussia Dortmund. The 35-year-old German international, who has 78 caps and extensive experience with both Dortmund and Bayern Munich, will wear the number 15 shirt for Roma. He has signed a one-year deal reportedly worth €2.5 million ($2.8 million). Hummels has won five Bundesliga titles and multiple domestic cups during his career in Germany. His arrival at Roma follows the departure of Chris Smalling to the Saudi Pro League, and he becomes the seventh German to play for the club. This move marks Hummels' first professional stint outside his native Germany.
